the first trip to oui oui was a typical let’s-have-a-quick-lunch-break disaster. simply, we didn’t accept that most places here don’t know that such thing as a quick lunch exists. it isn’t unusual to wait 40 minutes for coffee, never mind food. since we can’t afford long lunch breaks, we often leave. that also happened at ouioui. we returned weeks later for another lunch and it was so-so. tasteless salad leaves, brie on toast – that kind of thing.

and then we returned for a light dinner. i know, a board of cheese and light usually don’t match. anyway, it was delicious and, due to its size, we had to take some away. so now i’m not sure about oui oui anymore. after all, if they can choose good-quality cheese, they can’t be that bad.

so many write about this place using superlatives. and it is the best pizza we’ve had here. we found it hard to decide which one to get, the choice is huge. anyway, made by italians, appreciated by argentinians. thank goodness for immigration, right?

turns out it’s not easy to find certain foods here. natural yogurt for example is always a pain. if it’s without sugar, it won’t sell, so even the greek-style one has either bits of fruit (!) or sugar inside. when you discover that only type which isn’t sweetened, you stumble upon another curiosity on the list of ingredients: gelatin (stabilizer). clearly not a vegetarian option.

glad to know there’s la choza for sugar and gelatin free organic yogurt (products available at farmers’ markets and veggie restaurants). there’s wapi for as delicious as beautiful cheese (in most supermarkets). and hausbrot for naturally wonderful bread (branches across the city). yum!

Oh yes, it is a chain. But made in Argentina. But their coffee does taste good. And if you want to work on your computer all day, they do have sockets to accommodate this. And when you lose your phone, a staff member will bring it to you in a white envelope the next time you visit. So yes, we like havanna.

Havanna coffee shops, all over the place.
