as part of my Costa Rica fundraising appeal i wrote a letter to Montezuma’s asking them to let me work in one of their shops for a day in exchange for a donation towards my trip. and they said yes! Montezuma’s make cool stuff, they’re not afraid of putting lime and chilli in their chocolate or making bars that taste just like apple crumble. yesterday i spent a day in their shop and café in Kingston Upon Thames. it’s a warm place filled with very easy going staff and attacked by chocolate lovers from dawn (almost!) to evening. street tasting of peppermint hot chocolate or ginger and chilli thins, trying to help customers, restocking shelves, filling in boxes with truffles named after Mint Eastwood or Lost in Space… all of these made me feel like being in a more contemporary version of Chocolat with Juliette Binoche. i met only one grumpy guy who looked down on my tray of free chocolates and had plenty of laughter and chitchat with the rest of passing Kingston shoppers on that day. and believe me, there’s no better place than a chocolate shop to work at just before Christmas.
thank you Montezuma’s! thank you Kingston team! happy Christmas!
